Discover Our Journey So Far
In Ghana, young women hold only about 25% of STEM positions, with the number decreasing as roles advance to leadership levels. This underrepresentation reflects significant barriers in accessing quality STEM education and mentorship. Additionally, most Ghanaians face challenges in finding employment right after graduation because public education often doesn’t equip students with competitive job-market skills. These limitations lead to “brain drain” as talented individuals leave Ghana in search of better opportunities.
To address these issues, SheSat Ghana offers a comprehensive one-year training and mentorship program focused on empowering young women in STEM, with a specialization in satellite technology and data analysis. This program provides hands-on training in developing satellite systems, electronics, and space systems design, ensuring participants gain practical skills they can use immediately. By working with Nyarkoa, a CanSat model developed in partnership with Xavier Space Solutions and Erictronics, participants will gain hands-on experience in real-world satellite applications. Additionally, participants will receive career and personal development guidance, including networking, CV building, and confidence-boosting workshops designed to help them navigate the job market successfully.
SheSat Ghana will select young women from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) who are passionate about STEM and eager to make a difference. Participants will work on meaningful projects, including developing CanSats that can address environmental issues specific to Ghana. By combining technical training with professional mentorship from established women in STEM and providing tools for environmental awareness, SheSat Ghana aims to cultivate a generation of skilled, motivated, and confident female STEM leaders who will drive innovation, address local challenges, and inspire future generations.
